Digital Goa, November 9, 2025 – CM Pramod Sawant today questioned the renewed protests against coal transportation in Goa, claiming that there has been no move by either the Government of India or the State Government to increase coal handling or transportation through the state. “Then why the protest?” he asked, adding that the status quo will continue and “not a single ton will be added to the existing capacity” at the MPA. Sawant also questioned the timing and intent behind the agitation, suggesting it may be politically motivated ahead of elections. His remarks came a day after a massive public meeting at Lohia Maidan, Margao, where citizens, activists, and opposition leaders from the opposition gathered under the banner “Gõyant Kôllso Naka” to oppose railway double-tracking and coal transportation through the state.
