Digital Goa, August 1 – Coal handling operations at Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) berths, along with alleged violations of transportation quantity limits and failure to recover crores in green cess payments, once again triggered heated scenes in the assembly. Opposition MLAs stormed into the well of the House shouting slogans of “Amka Kolso Naka” (“We dont want coal”), prompting a 10-minute adjournment— second such disruption during the ongoing monsoon session. LoP Yuri Alemao raised the issue during Question Hour, seeking clarity on several aspects: berths allotted for coal handling, permissions granted, cess paid, and whether operations had exceeded the limits set by the Pollution Control Board.
Govt considering action on violations : Environment Minister
Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira also admitted to the violations and informed the House that the government is considering legal action in the matter. He added that the relevant file has been sent to the Advocate General(AG) for his opinion.
