Digital Goa, August, 25 – Colvale police on Tuesday arrested jail inmate Yogesh Mandrekar in connection with the alleged drug smuggling racket at Colvale Central Jail. He has been remanded to three days of police custody. The investigation began after GHRDC security guard Asha Chodankar was allegedly caught attempting to smuggle drugs and mobile phones into the jail. During the investigation, jail inmate Rovina Lobo was arrested after being identified as the alleged intended recipient of the drugs. The probe has since widened, with police examining suspected mobile phone use, financial transactions and links to other inmates and persons outside the jail. Lobo named Mandrekar and one more person linked to Colvale jail. Colvale police took Mandrekar into custody and presented him before JMFC Mapusa who remanded him to 3 days police custody. Police are investigating the alleged supply and distribution network and the possible involvement of more persons.
