Compensation window now open for victims even when accused walks free; ₹10 lakh aid for women, child victims

Digital Goa, Sept 10 – Crime victims in Goa can now seek state compensation even when the offender remains unidentified or an accused is acquitted for lack of evidence. The highest relief, up to ₹10 lakh,is earmarked for women and children suffering severe mental trauma in cases such as rape and human trafficking. Acid attack survivors are entitled to ₹3.5 lakh–₹5 lakh, while compensation for the death of a family’s sole earning member is capped at ₹2 lakh. Disability-related assistance ranges from ₹10,000 to ₹50,000. For lynching and mob violence, the scheme provides ₹2 lakh for the death of a sole earning member, ₹1 lakh for another family member’s death or disability above 80%, and ₹50,000 for serious injury or 40–80% disability. Applications must ordinarily be filed within 180 days, while legal services authorities must decide claims within two months. Immediate free medical care and interim relief can also be ordered. Motor accident claims remain outside the scheme.
