‘ Controversial’ Pernem Taluka draft zoning plan to be kept in abeyance

    Digital Goa, Oct 9 – Goa govt has decided to keep the ‘controversial’ GIS based draft Zoning plan for Pernem in abeyance, announced TCP Minister Vishwajeet Rane. He said that the decision has been taken in consultation with the Chief Minister and the central leadership. “The zoning plan has been kept in abeyance the way Manohar Parrikar had kept the Regional Plan 2021 in abeyance,” he said. Future course of action will be decided by taking people of Pernem and Central leadership in confidence, Rane added.TCP minister made the announcement in the presence of former Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte, panch members and sarpanchas of several Pernem panchayats. Mandrem MLA Jeet Arolkar and many other panchayats of Pernem Taluka had vehemently opposed the plan and had warned of launching a massive agitation if the plan was not scrapped by today. Nearly 1.4 crore sqm of land or 21% of the green cover was proposed to be converted into settlement in the GIS bases zoning plan of Pernem Taluka. Several Pernem panchayats were up in arms against the draft plan.
