Feb 17- Electricity Dept have imposed fines to the tune of Rs 12.6 crore on 6 more telecom companies for allegedly illegally using the electricity poles for pulling their cables. Fines ranging from Rs 60 lakh to Rs 3 crore have been imposed of these companies for violating the Goa Telecom Infrastructure Policy, 2020, and the Telecommunications (Right of Way) Rules, 2024. The Electricity & IT Dept have together received over 206 applications from across Goa from cable TV and ISP service providing companies, and Electricity Dept is in the process of disposing these applications. As per the Electricity Department official the penalties on erring companies can go upto Rs 30 crore and compensation due is to the tune of over Rs 60 crore. Four days back, fine to the tune of Rs 5.2 crore was imposed on 2 telecom companies.
