Nov 11 – High Court has ordered interim stay order on demolition of 54 year old Sanguem Municipality Town Hall building in a petition filed by occupant vendors challenging the eviction order. The demolition of the building was scheduled to be carried out today and Dy Collector had issued directions to the associated authorities including Sanguem Municipality Chief Officer and the Police in this context. The demolition was withheld following Court order. Structural audit of the building constructed in 1970, which was done by Goa Engineering College in 2020, had highlighted precarious condition of the building. Following this the Municipality had decided to demolish the building. The vendors on their part had demanded that proper alternate arrangements be made for them to operate their businesses before they are evicted from the building.
