Digital Goa, May 5 – A dry grass fire that began around 11:30 am today in fields at Caranzalem fields near Miramar quickly escalated into a major blaze due to the summer heat, filling the densely populated area with thick smoke and forcing residents out of their homes. Luckily no major injuries have been reported in the incident. Fire and emergency services deployed four fire tenders- from Panaji, HQ, Pilerne and Porvorim Fire Stations to control the flames. 108 ambulance was called in to assist those, particularly senior citizens, experiencing respiratory distress. Locals suspect that the fire may have stemmed from the common summer practice of setting dry grass on fire in open fields. This incident has raised fresh concerns about the risks associated with such methods, especially in urban and semi-urban areas.
