Digital Goa, Aug 31- As expected, August has ended with one of the lowest rainfall recorded in Goa in decades. IMD has attributed the poor rainfall recorded in the month of August to El Niño phenomenon. Not just Goa but the entire country is affected by El Niño making this August the driest since 1901, from when rainfall records of the India Meteorological Department are available. Hardly 292 mm rainfall was recorded in the entire August month in Goa. Low rainfall in the month of August has almost wiped out more than 40 percent surplus cumulative rainfall Goa was enjoying at the beginning of August. If the forecast of IMD about a likely weak monsoon in September comes true, Goa will have to stare at a deficit monsoon this year.
