Digital Goa, Aug 10 – Formalin in fish issue cropped up at the State Legislative Assembly yet again today. Minister Vishwajit Rane assured the house of setting up Food Testing Lab of Export Inspection Agency under Union Ministry of Commerce & Industries within next 3 months. The project was proposed in 2019 at SGPDA market complex by former Union Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu to test all type of foods, including fish, milk, vegetables, fruits and meat products. The project office was also set up in Margao, but the project did not take off. Rane also assured the house of having random testing of fish entering the state done through FDA. Fish testing is done through labs set up by Quality Council of India(QCI) at the state borders. Media reports have pointed out to irregularities and lack of transparency in the testing process.
