Nov 25- Cybercrime Cell of Goa police has busted an illegal call center engaged in cyber fraud targeting US citizens operating out of Zuari Nagar, Sancoale and arrested 24 employees from different states in the country from Andaman & Nicobar to Jammu & Kashmir. The accused were made to impersonate as loan company agents, staff from Amazon headquarters, bank employees, Paypal, IOS, Zell Pay, Apple Pay, government agencies, and law enforcement officers etc. and induce unsuspecting US citizens to pay large sums in the form of gift cards, bitcoins, and other means under false pretexts, including loan assistance, purchase payments, and technical support. Police informed that the call center was operational in Goa since one month, during which it is estimated to have perpetrated fraud amounting to over Rs 1 crore. Of the 24 arrested employees 10 are from New Delhi, Haryana 3, Andaman & Nicobar 1, UP 4, Punjab 2, Jammu Kashmir – 1, Maharashtra 2 and one is from Gujarat. They were recruited via an online agency and trained extensively on specific scripts to be used during calls. Their monthly salaries ranged between Rs 35,000 and Rs 40,000, police added.
