Digital Goa, Dec 28 – Compensation to the tune of Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh will be paid to next of kin or legal heirs of prisoners who happen to die unnatural deaths while in prisons. Goa govt has amended the Goa Prisons (First Amendment) Rules, 2023 to this effect. For death by suicide, death due to injury by self, compensation to the tune of Rs 3 lakh will be paid. Compensation to the tune of Rs 4 lakh will be paid for death due to injury by other prisoners. Rs 5 lakh compensation will be paid if death is due to injury by any correctional home employee or due to medical negligence.
