Goa Assembly passes bill to ban ferocious dog breeds like Pitbulls and Rottweilers

Digital Goa, July 23 – The Goa Legislative Assembly today passed The Goa Animal Breeding and Domestication (Regulation and Compensation) Bill, 2025, aimed at banning ferocious dog breeds such as Pitbulls and Rottweilers in the state. The bill stipulates that in cases where a dog attack results in injury or death, the dog owner can face up to 3 months of simple imprisonment and a fine of up to ₹50,000. It also mandates that existing owners must sterilise such dogs within six months of the Act’s implementation. Opposition members expressed concerns over certain provisions and demanded that the bill be referred to a Select Committee. However, the government proceeded with a vote and passed the bill. CM Pramod Sawant assured the House that the public will be consulted before the bill is officially implemented, following its notification.
