Digital Goa, July 31 – The Goa Assembly today passed an amendment to the Goa Land Revenue Code, 1968 to regularise unauthorised dwelling houses built on government land before specified cutoff date. Under the bill, encroachments on plots up to 400 square meters may be regularised by the Deputy Collector upon payment of a price determined by the government. The regularisation excludes properties located in forests, wildlife sanctuaries, CRZs, NDZs, and eco-sensitive zones. Only the plinth area and up to two metres around the house—capped at 400 sq m—will be considered for regularisation. Applicants must submit their requests within six months of the Act coming into force, and the government is required to dispose of the applications within the same period. The law also provides safeguards against demolition during the application period and prescribes penalties for false declarations.
