Goa Assembly voices concern over rising crime, CM blames migrant workers

Digital Goa, July 25 – The Goa Legislative Assembly today expressed serious concern over the rising crime rate in the state, especially against vulnerable sections of society. Opposition members pointed out that crimes against women, children, and senior citizens are increasing day by day and raised concerns over the ineffectiveness of the police in controlling the situation. The issue of Goa’s poor conviction rate was also highlighted, with only 10 percent of registered cases resulting in convictions. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who also holds the Home portfolio, attributed the rise in crimes to migrant workers. “Goans are peace-loving people,” he said, adding that most crimes are committed by individuals from outside the state, particularly those working in the tourism industry and factories. He urged the public to conduct proper tenant verification to help control the growing menace.
