Digital Goa, July 28 – The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Goa Water Metro project is expected to be completed within the next four months, with the State Government aiming to secure 100% Central funding for the ambitious inland water transport initiative, River Navigation Department (RND) Minister Subhash Phal Dessai said on Monday. Addressing a press conference, Phal Dessai said Goa has been prioritised by the Centre for preparation of the DPR after the successful completion of the feasibility study. The DPR is being prepared by Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL), which has successfully implemented Water Metro project in Kochi. The proposed project is estimated to cost between ₹3,100 crore and ₹3,200 crore, according to KMRL Managing Director and retired IPS officer Loknath Behera. The first phase will span 111 km across nine river routes with approximately 32 terminals. The feasibility report has identified Panaji, Betim, Divar, Chodan, Vanxim, Sarmanas, Narve, Aldona, Cortalim, Madkai, Adpai and Durbhat among the locations proposed to be connected in the first phase. The project aims to establish water-based transport as an important mode of daily commuting and a special tourist attraction in Goa, while offering ease of travel.
