Goa needs equipment, dedicated SDRF unit for disaster readiness: DGP Alok Kumar

Digital Goa,May 14 -While Goa has made significant progress in disaster response training, it still lacks critical equipment, said Director General of Police (DGP) Alok Kumar. He was speaking at the valedictory function of the NDRF training program for Goa Police.“We’ve proposed setting up a dedicated State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) unit in Goa. At present, trained personnel return to their departments, making coordinated disaster response challenging. A permanent, skilled, and equipped team will help make Goa self-reliant in disaster management,” the DGP said. In the past year, Goa conducted two major NDRF-led training programmes—one focused on floods and landslides, which trained over 300 personnel, and another on nuclear, chemical, and meteorological threats, with over 200 participants, including doctors from GMC.
