Goa records 240 new HIV cases in 2024, slight decrease from 2023

Jan 3- Goa has reported 240 new human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) cases in 2024, marking a slight decrease from the 270 cases registered in 2023. According to Dr Lalitha Umraskar, Project Director of the Goa State AIDS Control Society (GSACS), 15 people died of AIDS last year, compared to 32 deaths in 2023. She also mentioned that while HIV testing has increased significantly, the positivity rate remains stable at 0.17%. Currently, around 3,300 people in Goa living with HIV are receiving treatment at state-run antiretroviral therapy (ART) centres.
