Goa-SEIAA halts Bambolim construction work over environment clearance lapse following protest by MLA Borkar

Digital Goa, April 28 – Goa State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (Goa-SEIAA) has issued a stop-work order for ongoing construction by Worldwide Resorts & Entrainment Pvt. Ltd. at Bambolim, citing the absence of mandatory Environment Clearance under the EIA Notification 2006. The application for Environment Clearance applicable under EIA Notification 2006 is pending before Goa-SEIAA, the stop work order has pointed out. The action has been initiated after protest by RGP MLA Viresh Borkar against the alleged illegalities and violations of Environment (Protection) Act. He had also filed complaint to the authority regarding the issue.
The stop work order, issued by Director (Environment) and Member Secretary on April 28, instructs that all civil activity at the site be halted immediately. Non-compliance may invite action under Section 15 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, including imprisonment or fine, the order warns.
