Goa targets 21,200 rooftop solar systems by 2027 under PM Surya Ghar Yojana

Digital Goa, June 3- Goa has been set a target of installing 21,200 rooftop solar systems by 2027, generating 65 MW of clean and green energy, and ensuring affordable, sustainable power access for poor and middle-class households under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PM-SGMBY). In a high-level meeting chaired by CM Pramod Sawant at Mantralaya today, officials reviewed the implementation and progress of the scheme in the state. Over 4,700 feasibility approvals have already been granted under the scheme and installed systems have collectively generated 7.34 MW of solar power, and subsidies amounting to ₹4.28 crore have been released to beneficiaries, informed Sawant. The meeting focused on fast-tracking the onboarding of contractors with 25-year maintenance commitments and promoting rooftop solar adoption in new and existing buildings, including hotels, residential complexes, and government offices. Another key decision at the meeting involved phasing out older schemes like the Goa Vinamulya Vidyut Yojana (GVVYJ) and integrating it under PM-SGMBY. Govt also plans to emphasise mandatory rooftop solar installations for specific sectors.
