Digital Goa, Dec 5 – Goa govt will counter the Mahadayi Water Dispute Tribunal’s (MWDT) estimate of 188 TMC water availability in Mahadayi basin in tomorrow’s hearing before Supreme Court. Goa’s main argument in Supreme Court will be countering Mahadayi Water Dispute Tribunal’s pegging of total water availability in the Mahadayi basin at 188 TMC, informed AG Devidas Pangam. “It is not true. We don’t agree with it. This will have long term impact on Goa,” he said. In addition, Goa has asked for permission to file additional documents, facts and annexures before the apex court. Karnataka has also filed application challenging the order of Goa Chief Wildlife Warden. All these, Goa’s SLP and other Interlocutory Applications in the matter are likely to come before the Supreme Court tomorrow.
The MWDT in its final award on August 14, 2018, had pegged the total water availability in Mhadei basin at 188 TMC at 75 % dependability. The tribunal had allowed Karnataka access to 13.4 TMC of Mahadayi River water for its consumptive use (5.4 TMC) and power generation (8.02 TMC). Goa was allocated 24 TMC for state’s municipal water needs, irrigation water requirements and industrial water demands. Maharashtra was awarded share of 1.33 TMC for meeting its in-basin needs.
