Goa yet to set up women’s safety vehicle tracking centre under Nirbhaya scheme

Digital Goa, September 1 – Goa is among 21 States/UTs which are yet to operationalise the vehicle tracking monitoring centre under the Nirbhaya Framework by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), as per the data released by MoRTH. The nationwide programme, approved in January 2020 at a total estimated cost of ₹463.90 crore, mandates state-wise vehicle tracking platforms for public service vehicles fitted with location tracking devices and emergency buttons. The system aims to enhance women’s safety through real-time monitoring and linkage with the State Emergency Response Support System (SERSS). So far 14 states have already set up such monitoring centres.
MoRTH report also states that Goa collected ₹34.14 lakh from All India Tourist Permits (AITP) and ₹12.33 crore from national permit fees in 10 months between March and December 2024, according to official data.
