Goans lost Rs 9 crore in Cyber Frauds this year: DGP

Nov 25 – In the first 10 months of the year 2024 Goans lost money to the tune of Rs 9 crore in different types of cyber frauds. Strength of Cybercrime Cell of Goa police has been nearly doubled in the last 3 to 4 months to tackle the growing number of cyber crimes, informed DGP Alok Kumar. The strength of the Cyber Cell which was 26 in May 2024, it expanded to 47 presently. 54 FIRs have been registered and 44 persons have been arrested in different types of Cybercrimes this year. 78 requests were sent to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for blocking escort websites, with most of them already blocked, informed DGP while speaking to media persons in the capital today.
Incidentally, Goa now ranks 5th in (at 30.46%) India in terms of the percentage of lien amount of total financial fraud reported in Oct.
