Governor assents to law regulating breeding and domestication of ferocious animals

Digital Goa, Sept 17 – The Governor of Goa has given assent to the Goa Animal Breeding and Domestication (Regulation and Compensation) Act, empowering the state government to declare “any breed or class of animals” as ferocious and ban their domestication, breeding, and import. Under the law, once a breed is declared ferocious, owners must inform the Animal Husbandry Director in writing within 30 days and sterilize the animal within 60 days, obtaining a sterilization certificate from the department. Failure to comply will attract penalties, including simple imprisonment ranging from 15 days to three months, a fine of up to ₹50,000, and community service.
