Digital Goa, July 12 – Government is not inclined towards closing down govt run primary schools, but at times is compelled to do so due to declining student strength, especially when parents shift their children to urban areas or aided high schools, said CM Pramod Sawant today. He was speaking during virtual interaction with parents, teachers and students on Mulyavardhan 3.0 scheme. Govt has merged schools, but never closed them down, he said. “We haven’t shut down any Marathi school either,” Sawant said adding that govt has instead taken up rebuilding or renovation of these schools. Conceding that some primary schools currently have only one or two teachers, Sawant assured that once the ongoing teacher recruitment process is completed, each school will be allotted four teachers. Speaking on Balraths, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the facility is meant for the convenience of students residing within a 3 km radius. He emphasised that school managements should not misuse the service to transport students from distant areas, 15–20 km away.
