Aug 10 – All govt departments, corporations and other govt bodies have been directed by the Civil Supplies Dept to stop asking citizens to produce ration cards as proof of residence or identity. Pointing out that citizens who don’t intend to use the ration card also apply for it as some govt depts insist on producing these cards for the purpose of availing benefits under various Schemes and public services, the civil supplies dept has asked the departments to refrain from doing so.
