Govt issues draft notification declaring 7 lakes across Goa as wetlands; suggestion & objections sought within 2 months

    Digital Goa, Sept 28 – Department of Environment & Climate Change, Govt of Goa has issued draft notification declaring 9 lakes across Goa as wetlands. The draft specifies the activities to be permitted and restricted within and near the water bodies after they are notified as wetlands. The draft notification shall be taken into consideration on or after the expiry of a period of sixty days from publishing of the notification, states the notification. Citizens interested in making any objection or suggestion, on the proposals contained in the draft notification have been asked to forward the same in writing, for consideration of the Government of Goa within 60 days to the Member Secretary, Goa State Biodiversity Board, Head of Nodal Agency, Goa State Wetland Authority, or at the email address ms-gswa.goa@gov.in
    The draft notification is regarding declaring the following 9 lakes as wetlands- Maimollem Lake, Vasco admeasuring an area of 266627 sq mts, Ambulor Lake, Verna admeasuring an area of 5393 sq mts, Bacbhatt Lake at Raia admeasuring an area of 75009 sq mts , Bebki Lake at Raia admeasuring an area of 10525 sq mts, Kamala Lake or Kamala Tollem at Benaulim admeasuring an area of 8050 sq mts , Lagoa de Cima Lake or Oilem tollem at Cavorim, Sailcete admeasuring an area of 156686 sq mts , Lamgao Lake or Lamgao tollem at Bicholim admeasuring an area of 3375 sq mts , Moingal Lake at Shiroda admeasuring an area of 2717 sq mts located and Vodle Dhakte Lake or Vodle Dhakte Tollem at Cortalim admeasuring an area of 87126 sq mts.
