Govt mulls amendment in Tenancy Rules to transfer agricultural land for public purpose; draft notification issued

    Digital Goa, Jan 10 – Mamlatdar will be able to accord sanction for transfer of agricultural land if it is required for public purpose by the govt if the draft amendment to the Goa Agriculture Tenancy (Special Rights and Privileges of Tenants) Rules is approved. Govt has notified the draft rules in this regards and sought feedback from the public within next 15 days. As per the draft Mamlatdar may accord sanction for transfer of agricultural land under section 18K of the Goa, Daman and Diu Agricultural Tenancy Act in the following circumstances, “ (i) that the land is required for a public purpose as defined under clause (za) of section 3 of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 (Central Act 30 of 2023); and (j) that the land is required for a community/public purpose by a local authority i.e. Village Panchayat, Muncipal Council or Municipal Corporation.”.
    Earlier such land transfer was possible in 8 different primarily agriculture or educational circumstance. The above two more types are included in the draft.
