Digital Goa, July 26 – Goa govt will study the Online Gaming ban law framed by Tamil Nadu govt and bring in similar law in Goa if the need be, CM Pramod Sawant informed the House today. Following substantial rise in suicide cases linked to online gambling, Tamil Nadu govt has come up with a law banning it. Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao raised the illegal online gambling issue in the assembly today and expressed concern over the huge negative impact it had on Goan youth. Yuri alleged that online gambling goes on through over 500 locations and that their daily turnover was close to Rs 30 crore. He further went on to allege that the illegal activities go on unabated as police dept and Cyber Crime Cell are in connivance.
▪️ Will crack down heavily on online gaming; remove all hoardings says CM
CM informed the House that 44 cases have been booked against online gambling in Goa since 2019. He assured the House that govt will crackdown on all such illegal gambling dens in the state. He however said that it is difficult to crack down on app based online gambling as players download these games on their mobiles and play them. “The Police Department have been directed to take action against online gambling locations and sites, online lottery sites and online casino operations in the State,” CM said. Sawant also added that all online gaming hoardings put up illegally across Goa will be pulled down at the earliest. He said that the state is mulling an Advertising Policy for the state to curb such illegalities. 11 onshore and 6 offshore casinos are operating with govt permission in Goa, however entry is banned for Goans in these casinos, CM informed.
▪️ Online Gaming dens eliminated from Canacona by activating police machinery says Speaker
Canacona MLA and Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar informed the House that he has been able to successfully eliminate the menace from his constituency by activating the police machinery against Online Gaming. “Beat police are aware of these things. By giving appropriate directions to the Police Inspectors, I have been able to curb online gaming dens in Canacona,” he informed.
