Govt requests Special Court for land grabbing as recommended by Commission of inquiry

Dec 23- Goa govt has written to the High Court requesting for designation of Special Court for land grabbing cases in the state. The communications addressed to the Registrar General, High Court of Bombay at Goa dated Nov 7, 2024 sought designation of the Special Court to handle the land grabbing cases. Retired Justice V K Jadhav led Commission of inquiry report accepted by the State Cabinet in Jan 2024 had proposed to the State government to appoint such Special Court with a designated public prosecutor to expedite cases of land grabbing. “The Special Court is empowered to determine the order in which the civil and criminal liability against the land grabber to be initiated,” read the report. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted in June 2022 to probe such cases of illegal land-grabbing has registered over 40 FIRs involving around 90 properties.
