Sept 27 – All road in the state will be made motorable by November 30, 2024. These will include those within Defect Liability Period (DLP) and those out of it, said CM Pramod Sawant today. PWD officials have been instructed to issue directives to all contractors to repair any roads damaged during the DLP at their own cost by the deadline of November 30. Until the repairs are completed, the licences of the contractors responsible for these roads will be temporarily suspended, and they will be barred from participating in any new projects, informed CM who is also the PWD Minister. 27 such contractors have been blacklisted so far and if they fail to take corrective actions they will be permanently blacklisted, he said. CM was speaking to media persons after chairing a high-level meeting on road infrastructure with officials from PWD, Electricity Department, and WRD. Disciplinary action will be initiated and penalties will be imposed on negligent officials, he added. Dept Engineers who have failed to submit both long-term and short-term project estimates despite issuing directions to do so have already been issued double show-cause notices, and further action will follow, said Sawant. 30 engineers have been issued show cause notices so far.
▪️ Govt contemplating waiting period of 3 years for road-cutting
“Once a road is constructed, there will be a strict waiting period of 3 years before any road can be dug up again. Hefty fines will be imposed on stakeholders who violate these rules. Permission to cut or alter newly constructed roads will also incur heavy fees,” CM said. PWD is also contemplating of increasing rates for road-cutting activities.
PWD will undertake GIS mapping of each and every road in the state. This will help in effective road repair management, he informed.
