Digital Goa, June 22 – Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has directed Seahath Canning Pvt Ltd located in Margao Industrial Estate to immediately stop operation in view of the discharging polluting effluents in the stream. The GSPCB has also asked the fish canning unit to stop discharge of effluents outside the premises through under ground pipelines and seal the pipelines. The unit is also asked to submit the action plan for remediation of fields and water bodies. The unit has approval to produce 3 lakh tins of fish per month and 750 tons per month ice blocks. The action came in the wake of complaints filed by locals. Earlier in 2014 also the unit was sealed for contaminating a pond by discharging of waste water from the fish canning factory.
