High Court has directed that the investigation into a POCSO case involving a minor who recently gave birth be transferred to the Women Cell, Panaji, after expressing concern that the probe was being handled by a male police officer. The investigation will now be carried out by lady Police Inspector under the supervision of SP, Women Police Station. The Division Bench also ordered a psychological assessment of the minor mother’s family, directing retired psychology professor to interview the victim’s mother and elder sister to help the court understand the circumstances that led to the minor’s present condition. The report will be submitted to the court in a sealed cover by August 3. Meanwhile, the minor mother and her newborn will continue to stay at the child care institution at Aldona until the next hearing, with directions to ensure all their healthcare needs, including follow-up medical care, are met.
