Heavy rain continues to batter Goa; IMD issues orange alert for May 22 & 23

Digital Goa, May 22 – Heavy rain continued to disrupt normal life in Goa for the third consecutive day, triggering incidents across the state. A landslide at Ambolim Ghat, Maharashtra disrupted traffic movement, while five parked cars were damaged after a huge mango tree collapsed on them at Khobrawado, Calangute. In Indira Nagar, Chimbel, a coconut tree crashed onto parked vehicles, adding to the rain-related damage. Continuous rain and habitat disturbance led a crocodile to stray out; it was spotted outside a home in Coelho Vaddo, Brittona. Locals, along with a Forest Department team, successfully rescued the reptile.
IMD has forecast Heavy to Very Heavy Rain accompanied by thunderstorms and wind speeds of 50–60 kmph, gusting up to 70 kmph, across Goa in the next 24 hours. The IMD has issued an orange alert for May 22 and 23, and a yellow alert from May 24 to 28.
