Digital Goa, May 8 – High Court today directed the Indian Coast Guard and Captain of Ports to conduct regular vessel inspections and help enforce the ban on LED light fishing, informed petitioner fishermen. The court also instructed authorities to establish a dedicated contact channel (helpline) for reporting violations and also to expedite proposals for equipping coastal police with advanced boats. The court will be monitoring the implementation. Fishermen have welcomed the order pointing out that Fisheries Department and coastal police did not have the necessary infrastructure and manpower. They have also called for a review and suspension of deep-sea fishing licences until a proper mechanism to enforce the ban is in place.
