High Court directs jail authorities to present health report of injured & other Colvale jail inmates

    Digital Goa, June 21 – High Court today directed the Colvale State Central Jail Administration to get the medical examination of injured as well as other jail inmates done and present a report before the Court. “Prisoners will be examined today and report will be submitted to the High Court next week,” informed AG Devidas Pangam. The HC order came in the matter pertaining to petition filed by six inmates including Sameer Shaikh alleging bullying by jail officials. Petitioners had sought medical examinations at hospitals outside jail premises. Court has ordered that the inmates be examined within the jail premises first and if the need be taken to external healthcare facilities based on the report. The petition alleges bullying and mistreatment by jail officials following the alleged fight between life convict Vijay Karbotkar and Tarzan Parsekar, an undertrial on May 30. Along with Sameer Sheikh, Qurban Sheikh, Ismail Mulla, Sadiq Bellary, Mustafa Sheikh and Mohammad Sharif Sheikh are petitioners. State Government, Home Secretary, Director General of Police, Inspector General of Jails, Omvir Singh Bishnoi (IPS) and Superintendent of Jails have been made respondents in the case. “As regards the allegations, we will file affidavit and explain the incident to the HC in detail,”Pangam added. The matter has been posted for hearing on June 28.
