High Court directs UIDAI to share Atala’s Aadhaar details with Goa police

Digital Goa, Sept 23 – High Court has directed the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to disclose demographic information and enrolment details related to the Aadhaar card of Israeli national Yaniv Benaim alias Atala, who is presently lodged in Colvale jail. The State had sought access to documents submitted by Atala to obtain Aadhaar, after investigations revealed he was staying in India without valid passport or visa but had been issued Aadhaar no. 8368 4349 1046 in August 2021. The court held that disclosure was necessary to probe how a foreign national without valid travel documents managed to secure Aadhaar, noting wider implications for state security. It directed UIDAI to furnish Atala’s demographic details and the enrolment agency particulars within two weeks. Atala, who opposed the plea citing his right to privacy, has a history of multiple criminal cases in Goa including narcotics, foreigners’ violations and attempted murder.
