Digital Goa, Sept 12 – The Bombay High Court at Goa has raised compensation for the parents of 25-year-old seafarer Girish Baing, who died in a Thivim road accident in July 2013, to ₹1.18 crore. The court directed the insurer and the motorcycle owner to pay the balance with 9% interest, after deducting amounts already paid. The original tribunal award of ₹91.05 lakh was modified to include 40% for future prospects, while reducing excessive claims under other heads. The court held the accident was caused by the rider’s rash driving. The court also rejected claims of the deceased being under alcohol influence noting the absence of a blood test report and relying on eyewitness testimony. The Court directed that the additional compensation be deposited within eight weeks.
