Digital Goa, Aug 12 – The Bombay High Court at Goa has granted ad-interim relief to Cynthia Nazareth after the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Goa directed her to exit the country amid a pending dispute over her citizenship and visa. Court noted that on July 28 it had directed the Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, to decide by August 15 the petition concerning refusal of her application under Section 15(A) of the Citizenship Act, 1955, which had been pending since February 13.The court, however, noted that the MHA had passed an order on July 27 rejecting her review application without deciding the citizenship issue as directed by the court. Instead, she was given liberty to apply afresh for citizenship.The court observed that one of the challenges in the main petition concerns refusal of a visa to her. A fresh citizenship application would require her to submit a fresh visa.In view of the FRRO’s direction asking the lady to exit India, the High Court granted her ad-interim relief.The matter has been posted for further hearing on September 16.
