Digital Goa, Dec 18 – The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Wednesday directed urgent steps to save the life of Manik, a 59-year-old elephant housed at Jungle Book Resort, who is in critical condition due to acute arthritis. The Court allowed Manik’s temporary transfer to Vantara, Jamnagar, Gujarat, for specialised medical care. The resort has been looking after the elephant since 2009. The Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences, Goa, has been asked to assess, in consultation with experts, whether the elephant can safely travel in a specialised ICU ambulance. If deemed fit, transit permissions must be issued on priority, including on public holidays. The court clarified that Manik will be brought back to Goa after recovery.
