High Court partly allows appeal in 2011 minor assault case; aunts acquitted of child abuse charges

Digital Goa, Feb 3 – High Court has partly allowed the appeal of two sisters, who were convicted in 2016 for allegedly assaulting their minor nephew at Bhoma, Ponda. The court upheld their conviction for causing hurt with a dangerous weapon but acquitted them of charges of child abuse and intentional insult, ordering the refund of ₹1 lakh fines imposed earlier. The incident took place on June 4, 2011, when the boy was reportedly attacked while washing his face at a water tap, resulting in injuries that required treatment at Goa Medical College. The High Court has now sent the case back to the Children’s Court to decide if the sisters can be released on probation, with a report from a Probation Officer guiding the decision.
