High Court relief to disqualified Mapusa Councillor Tarak Arolkar; disqualification order quashed

Digital Goa, June 27 – High Court today quashed aside the orders of Director of Urban Development and Caste Scrutiny Committee (CSC) related to disqualification of Tarak Arolkar as councillor of Mapusa municipal council (MMC) based on caste certificate submitted by him while contesting elections from OBC reserved ward. Arolkar had filed a petition challenging the CSC order dated May 5, 2023 declining to verify the Caste Certificate dated March 18,2021 issued by the Deputy Collector & SDO, Mapusa certifying that he is OBC . He had also challenged the order dated May 29, 2023 made by the Director of Urban Development disqualifying/unseating him as councillor based upon CSC’s order.

The Court has also directed the State Government to consider within three months from today steps necessary to require persons availing of reservation benefits based upon provisional Caste Certificates issued by the Deputy Collector & SDO to get the same verified by the CSC as per directive of Supreme Court and file necessary compliance report by 25.09.2023 .
