Digital Goa, Sept 12 – High Court has suspended the conviction and sentence of mother son duo in the 2018 murder case by sessions court and ordered their release on bail. It may be noted that Additional Sessions Judge, South Goa had convicted and sentenced Shevanti Dessai and her son Sarvesh Dessai from Xelvona,Curchorem to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for murder of their relative Suryakant Dessai over property dispute in 2018. High Court today observed that there is a discrepancy over the actual cause of fatal head injury of the victim. The court accepted the argument of defence counsel that the fatal head injury could be due the fall on the ground and not due to the weapon used in the crime. In view of this the High Court has suspended the sentence and granted bail to both Shevanti and her son during the pendency of appeal challenging the Judgment and Order dated Aug 22, 2023.
