July 31- House today passed Goa Ground Water Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2024 with the intention of protecting Goa’s water resources and groundwater aquifers from contamination and penalise the polluters. Opposition alleged that although the intent of the bill was clear there was no clarity in drafting the bills due to which new channels of corruption will open up. Penalty to the tune of Rs 10 lakh has been proposed for polluting or contaminating ground water by injecting treated/untreated water into the aquifer systems. For illegal sinking of a bore well and illegal transportation of ground water also fine upto Rs 10 lakh has also been proposed.
