July 25 – Opposition today walked into the well of the house over proposal to start a private medical college attached to the Rs 500 crore worth South Goa District Hospital. LoP Yuri Alemao asserted that the private medical college at SGDH will not be allowed. Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane said that the proposal is under consideration but final decision is yet to be taken in this regards.
Contrasting answers imply violation of CVC guidelines says Vijai
The assembly also witnessed war of words between Rane and Goa Forward leader Vijay Sardesai over the matter. Vijai pointed out that CM Sawant has already announced in March this year that the private medical college will be set up in the 10,000 sqr mtr land under GSUDA by using the model proposed by NITI Ayog. However, answer given to him by the minister has stated that there is no such proposal while the one given to LoP states that the proposal is under consideration. The two answers are in contrast with each others, this is violation of Central Vigilance Commission(CVC) guidelines, alleged Vijai adding that the minister can be jailed for the violations.“ I have not violated CVC guidelines,”asserted Rane. He also informed that administrative approval has been granted for starting a nursing college at Margao.
