Illegal fishing in Goans waters by Karnataka boats: 10 cases filed, Rs 14.80 lakh fine imposed in 2 years Lok Sabha told

Dec 10- Goa govt has filed 10 cases against fishing boats from Karnataka and imposed fine to the tune of Rs 14.80 lakh during the period 2022 -2024, for fishing illegally in Goan waters, Lok Sabha was told today in a written reply by Union Fisheries Minister. A question as regards bull trawling, LED fishing and illegal fishing by boats from Maple, Karnataka was raised in the Lok Sabha by South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes. The maritime States/UTs have been advised to temporarily suspend the registration/license of fishing vessels violating related orders, cancel the registration/license of such fishing vessels on repeated violations, and inform Coast Guard & other marine enforcement agencies about such violators, with directions to prevent operation of those fishing vessels, the answer added. There is no such report of Chinese fishing trawlers fishing inside the Indian waters, stated the Minister in response to a query in this regards.
