Injured Iranian fisherman airlifted to GMC after joint ICG-Navy rescue operation

Digital Goa, Oct 30 – An Iranian fisherman suffering eye injuries was successfully airlifted and admitted to GMC Hospital today following a joint rescue operation by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Indian Navy. The fisherman, identified as Allah Baksh, master of the dhow Al-Owais, had sustained injuries in an alleged explosion incident about 1,500 km west of Kochi on October 28. Responding to an alert from MRCC Chabahar, Iran, the ICG deployed Ship Sachet and diverted the Marshall Islands-flagged tanker MT STI Grace for assistance. The injured fisherman was stabilised and transferred mid-sea to ICGS Sachet, which proceeded toward Goa. A Sea King naval helicopter then airlifted the patient from the vessel, about 180 km off the Goa coast, and brought him to GMC.
