Inquire into authenticity of sand transportation permit: High Court to govt

Digital Goa, Mar 18 – High Court has asked govt to check authenticity of permit submitted by a truck owner to transport sand from Sindhudurg to Goa. Court was hearing the illegal sand mining matter today. Mines Dept permit is mandatory for transporting sand from other states to Goa. The permit is issued online by the dept. Information obtained through RTI had revealed that the department had not issued the permit which was submitted by a truck while bringing sand from outside to Goa. Suspecting further illegalities, HC has asked the govt to conduct thorough inquiry into the matter and submit the report. In addition, govt has also been asked to submit a report on destruction of canoes seized during illegal sand mining. The matter will now come up before the court in 2 weeks’ time. High Court and the petitioner have expressed satisfaction that illegal sand mining is under control in the state, informed AG Devidas Pangam.
