Aug 31- One IRBN constable and one lifeguard have been arrested by Pernem police in yesterday’s 2-year-old child kidnapping attempt case at Korgaon. The accused are identified as Nikesh Chari from Korgaon, Pernem who is IRBn Police Constable presently attached to Ribandar Camp and 47-year-old Sanjay Narvekar from Shiroda, Vengurla, Maharashtra who works as a life guard. The incident occurred yesterday evening around 7.30 pm. Sanjay entered the house of the child who was playing in the balcony. He picked up the child and was about to flee from the spot with Nikesh who was waiting for him on the two-wheeler when family members sounded alarm. Following this, neighbours rushed for help, caught hold of Sanjay and rescued the child. Following the commotion, Nikesh fled from the scene on his bike. Locals handed Sanjay over to police who had reached the spot by then. Upon interrogation, he revealed the name of Niesh Chari as alleged mastermind behind the kidnapping. Police have also attached 2 Maharashtra registered vehicles – Motorcycle bearing no. MH-07-M-4271 and Car bearing No.MH-43-V-9842 which were used while committing the offence. Both the accused persons have confessed of committing the crime. A report will be submitted against the accused IRBn PC Nikesh Chari for appropriate disciplinary action, informed police. It is suspected that the child was kidnapped to seek money as ransom from the family which was known to Nikesh. Further investigation is on.
