Feb 20- Joint site inspection of mining affected areas at Mulgao Village of Bicholim Taluka will be held tomorrow Feb 21, evening in the presence of villagers, mining dept and other govt officials, representatives of mining company etc. Deputy-Collector and SDO Bicholim Sub-Division Bhimnath Khorjuvekar has issued a notice to this effect. In the last week of January 2025, villagers had marched onto Bicholim Block I mine being operated by Vedanta and stopped its operations. Villagers are demanding that several issued such as removal of houses, temples , schools etc from mining lease area, desilting of paddy fields, clearing of pending compensation of farmers, releasing arrears of lease rent to Communidade of Mulgao etc should be addressed first before restarting of mines.
